Vehicles & Crews 

Art Move operates unmarked vehicles specially equipped for the transport of artwork. From large lorries to the smallest local delivery vehicle, all

• are crewed by experienced and helpful art handlers (the usual crew complement is 2)
• who are equipped with mobile 'phones
• and have access to Satellite Navigation Technology

• air-ride suspension
• tracking devices with 24 hour monitoring
• thermal insulation as standard
• high capacity cantilever tail lifts

For long distance work and work under the Government Indemnity Scheme (GIS) regulations, equipment also includes

• double sleeper cabs 
• climate control

Operations

Art Move vehicles operate throughout the UK and into Europe providing both timed local and consolidated long-distance services. Our services range from the collection / delivery of a single artwork from any area to the movement of major touring exhibitions.

Local Collections & Deliveries

Art Move employees understand common access restrictions in studios and galleries and will normally assist during delivery and collection.  London work is usually carried out in the smaller vehicles at an hourly rate.  These smaller vehicles are also used for gathering together and re-distributing items booked on our consolidated UK runs or for international shipping.

The current hourly rate is £90 + VAT.  One hour minimum charge.

Long Distance Consolidated Transport

Our weekly trip throughout England to Scotland and back tends to leave London early on a Tuesday morning.  We are generally in Scotland on the Wednesday,  returning to London on Thursday night.  A typical week's itinerary may include Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Newcastle.

Further locations can be accommodated across England and Wales and further north in Scotland, either by us directly in our own vehicles or in association with our network of trusted regional art carriers.  All these carriers are approved by Art Move.    

The current minimum charge is £120.00 + VAT.

INTERNATIONAL

Art Move provides a worldwide shipping and air-freight service for all types of artworks and is internationally recognised as a specialist art transport company.  We offer all of the following

• worldwide shipping by air and sea
• european transport by land or air
• transit cases suitable for all international transport
• worldwide transit insurance available under our policies at very advantageous rates (see below)
• customs/security/packaging expertise
• customs bonded warehousing

Liability Cover

Our mandatory liability insurances are included in our prices.

All Risks Insurance Cover - available only on request at the rates below

• domestic transport all risks: £0.15% of value per UK mainland transit.  Minimum charge £10 per transit
• worldwide transport all risks cover: £0.35% of value per transit.  Minimum charge £20 per transit
• all risks in store: £0.6% of value per annum pro rata.  Minimum charge £10 per month or part month
• NB - For items or loads valued in excess of £1million, 5 working days written notice is required. 
• Art Move can also comply with the regulations for carriage & storage of items under the Government Indemnity Scheme (GIS)

All prices exclude VAT at the prevailing rates and are subject to alteration without notice.

PACKING

Soft-Wrapping

Art Move provides an on-site wrapping service for the protection of work during transit. All our employees fully understand the uniqueness of artwork and are trained in the handling and packaging of paintings, sculptures, glassware and other unusual and delicate objects.

Our range of soft wrapping materials includes

• acid-free tissue
• silicone release paper
• low-tac glass protection tapes
• double laminated bubble-wrap (ie smooth on both sides with the bubbles in the middle)
• plastic sheeting
• carton sheets and separators
• heavy duty duo-board cartons to our own specifications

We can supply high quality, bespoke

• fitted transit-frames and
• transit cases for all artworks for airfreight, seafreight or simply for storage

Made to measure cases offer the optimum protection and volume economy for international shipping or touring exhibitions.  Cases are generally of a timber and marine-plywood construction with internal foam lining and protections.

We may also be able to provide transit-frame loans for national dispatch. Please ask whether we have a suitable size in stock.

Packing Pricing

Wrapping and packing by our staff is based on our hourly rate of £90 + VAT per hour for a team of two art handlers, with a proportional charge for materials used.

Casemaking and transit frame prices will be estimated as required according to the sizes and quantities of the artworks.

NB - Art Move currently stocks silicone release paper for sale in rolls 1.02 wide x 500metres.  These rolls are approximately 25cms in diameter and currently cost £120 + VAT

STORAGE

The Art Move offices and store are situated in Battersea, South West London.  Our storage facilities offer

• HM Customs bonded storage for works held in bond or on temporary import
• transit storage for short-term/mid-journey
• longer term storage. NB Cheaper rates may be available for off-site storage of lower value items. eg  empty cases, plinths, stands etc.
• climate control
• 24 hour high security
• viewing area
• off-street parking for visiting clients
  
• assistance of trained art handlers. NB - this must be booked in advance as it is subject to availability of staff.
• storage/ transport co-ordination for touring exhibitions
• collection-storage-delivery arrangements during home relocation/renovation
• database/photographic records for storage of group and private collections
• canvas unstretching/restretching service (subject to inspection)

Collection Management

Storage, maintenance and administration of corporate/private art collections

• computerised database of artwork
• use of client's numbering system
• facility for making or holding photographic records
• unwrapping & re-wrapping
• provision of client's stock reports with lists sorted as required - eg by stock number, by artist etc
• Central London delivery discounts for storage volumes over 5 cubic metres (see pricing)

Other In-Store Services

• digital/print photography
• conservation reports
• arrange conservation/framing
• wrapping and casing service to museum standards
• uncasing & condition report service on arrival/collection.  NB This usually requires the attendance of the client or their representative

Storage Pricing

• climate-controlled secure storage @£1.50 per cubic metre/day.
• minimum weekly charge £12.  Wrapping from £10.00 per item.
• £12 minimum handling charge for movements or viewing.
• Customs Bonded Storage @£2.00 per cubic metre/day (minimum charges as above).
  
• NB - Deals can be arranged for clients storing more than 10m3 or who wish to store for extended periods.

INSTALLATION

Art Move technical services undertake all practical work in art installation.

Our services range from the hanging of a single picture in a private home to the installation of a full public exhibition.

Art Move technical services also offer expertise in exhibition design and layout, security fittings, lighting and conservation considerations.
